Yes, it’s true. Everyone who knows me knows I’m an absolute sucker for a good rainbow print in my outfits. I love color to the point where as long as there’s some rainbow, it’s an A+ outfit for me. I had the Xochimilco canals bookmarked for my trip long before I actually got to Mexico City, since I knew it was popular for its colorful mariachi boats. And when I found these dresses on Rent the Runway I knew where I would be wearing them to.
With my love for color it’s no surprise MDS Stripes is one of my favorite brands. It’s one of the many brands I discovered through the RTR app, thanks to this multi-tiered dress. Still one of my favorite things I’ve ever worn! Rainbow gemstone earrings are from Lulus.
For mid-range fashion brands, one of my top picks is Show Me Your Mumu. They do lots of fun (often colorful, tropical holiday-themed… noticing a trend here?) collections with recurring motifs like fruit, stripes, etc. I rented this maxi dress with a deep V cut and leg slit, which could be worn on its own as I did or as a cover over someone’s swimsuit – perfect for vacation.
Mexico City has no shortage of colorful landmarks to visit (plus agave and cacti everywhere!), and I checked out a couple of them. The Alameda del Kiosco Morisco was hidden in a park somewhere pretty close to the Biblioteca Vasconcelos library, I think, while Parque Mexico and Casa Gilardi are popular tourist spots. Need to gush some more about Casa Gilardi specifically – designed by the architecture heavyweight Luis Barragan, the ticket here was worth every penny (and not easy to get). Some may disagree, but for design nerds or just some Instagram enthusiasts like me, the tour (albeit a short one) was an awesome experience. Beyond the building’s bright colors and structural quirks, every room had a story – for starters, the extremely bright and colorful walls were painted with extract from flowers at the house.
